can be tailored to meet the needs of various audiences (see below for
a description of each workshop). To schedule a workshop, please contact
us at 534-6708.
Some of these workshops
will be offered in 2007-2008 through UCSD’s
LEAD/SOLO Passport to Leadership Certificate Program. See http://lead.ucsd.edu/LEAD_programs/
to read more about this program and learn how you can register for its
workshops.
Overcoming Personal Prejudice
In a safe and confidential environment, students will be able to explore
and question the prejudices and stereotypes they hold. Participants will
learn how to recognize prejudices that may not be aware of on a conscious
level, and understand where these beliefs and attitudes come from. The
workshop will provide skills and knowledge enabling participants to challenge
and overcome prejudices and stereotypes so that they can live effectively
in an increasingly multicultural society.
From Conflict to Friendship
Whether
it’s your roommates or your parents, conflict is an unavoidable
part of life. Learning how to handle it effectively is one of life’s
greatest challenges and most important skills. This seminar will introduce
students to methods of conflict resolution designed to deepen personal
relationships while satisfying unmet needs. Resources for additional
learning will be provided.
Alliance Building through Intergroup Dialogue
This workshop targets student organizations interested in building bridges
with other student groups who represent different social identities.
It will teach them essential skills based on the Intergroup Dialogue
approach to communication, intercultural understanding, and alliance
building so that groups can work more effectively together toward shared
goals.
Listen Up!
You Won’t
Be Sorry
A
practical workshop that will explore active listening techniques, barriers
to good listening,
and why “tuning in” is so important
to healthy relationships.
Making Ethical Decisions
Making Ethical Decisions is designed to challenge students regarding
character development issues. The program bridges theory to practice
and empowers participants to engage each other in discussion regarding
contemporary moral and ethical issues. The workshop allows participants
to examine the choices they make based on their moral and ethical development
process. Participants will think about their decisions, and gain a comprehensive
understanding of ethics, ethical decision making, effective communication
techniques, and more.
